Thinking about overclocking my CPU
I just have a stock cooler.
Yeah, that won’t cut it for serious overclocking. You’ll need at least a good air cooler or an AIO liquid cooler to keep temperatures under control.
What about overclocking RAM?Kai wrote: Wed Mar 12, 2025 7:22 amYeah, that won’t cut it for serious overclocking. You’ll need at least a good air cooler or an AIO liquid cooler to keep temperatures under control.
That’s usually safer and easier. Just enabling XMP or DOCP in BIOS can boost RAM speeds without much risk.
Nice! But does overclocking really make a big difference in games?Kai wrote: Wed Mar 12, 2025 7:23 amThat’s usually safer and easier. Just enabling XMP or DOCP in BIOS can boost RAM speeds without much risk.
For the CPU, it depends on the game. Some games benefit a lot, especially if they’re CPU-heavy, but for most, the GPU matters more. RAM overclocking, on the other hand, can help with overall system performance and reduce bottlenecks.Maverick wrote: Wed Mar 12, 2025 7:25 amNice! I guess I’ll upgrade my cooler first and then try overclocking.Kai wrote: Wed Mar 12, 2025 7:26 amFor the CPU, it depends on the game. Keep an eye on temps and stability when you do it.Maverick wrote: Wed Mar 12, 2025 7:27 amI guess I’ll upgrade my cooler first and then try overclocking.Kai wrote: Wed Mar 12, 2025 7:26 amFor the CPU, it depends on the game.
