I've been thinking of upgrading my GPU. What’s the best option right now for gaming and maybe some light video editing?

Depends on your budget. If you’re going all out, the NVIDIA RTX 4090 is the king right now. Insane performance for gaming at 4K and also a beast for editing with its CUDA cores.

True, but have you seen the price tag on that thing? Unless you’re swimming in cash, it’s overkill. The RTX 4070 Ti is a solid option for high-performance gaming without breaking the bank.

Don’t sleep on AMD, though. Their RX 7900 XTX is right up there with NVIDIA’s high-end cards, and it’s usually cheaper. Plus, AMD is closing the gap with features like FSR and ray tracing.

But isn’t NVIDIA better for ray tracing and DLSS? I mean, DLSS 3.0 looks like magic for boosting frame rates without losing quality.

It is, but how often are you really playing games that require maxed-out ray tracing? AMD’s performance-per-dollar is better overall, especially at 1440p and 4K.

Also, if you’re into content creation, NVIDIA still has the edge. Their software ecosystem—like Studio Drivers and better support for programs like Blender and Adobe—makes a big difference.

Fair, but let’s not forget that AMD cards use less power. The RX 6800 XT is a great mid-range option that runs cool and still crushes at 1440p.

What about VR? I’m thinking of trying it out in the future.

NVIDIA is still the better choice for VR. Their drivers and optimizations work better with most VR setups. AMD is catching up, but NVIDIA is the safer bet for now.
