Yeah! It’s a method used to extract minerals from the earth’s surface. Instead of digging deep tunnels like in underground mining, they just remove layers of soil and rock to reach the minerals.

Yeah! It’s a method used to extract minerals from the earth’s surface. Instead of digging deep tunnels like in underground mining, they just remove layers of soil and rock to reach the minerals.
That sounds easier than underground mining. What kind of minerals do they usually get this way?

There are a few types. Open-pit mining is the most common, where they dig a huge pit. Then there's strip mining, which removes long strips of soil to get to the minerals. Mountaintop removal is another type where they take off the top of a mountain to reach coal.

Yeah, it can be. It destroys landscapes, causes deforestation, and affects water sources. That’s why companies have to follow environmental regulations and sometimes do land reclamation after mining.
